Well folks tonight was the first regular season game for the Stros. They played the Chicago Cubs at home and did not fair so well. They lost 4-2. Roy Oswalt was the pitcher for the Astros and Carlos Zambrano started for the Cubs. Seems we always have trouble against Zambrano. Hopefully tomorrow will be a different story as they take the field again against the Cubs. Here the box score

Well i have not posted in a while. The season is going ok. We could be winning more games. They loast a nail bitter last night against the Brewers and then beat them today.
Right now in the standings they are 7-12. Way below 500 and in the cellar. Good thing it is jus the start of a long season.
The Astros are going to be in Cincinnati playing the Reds for three games starting tomorrow. Then they head to Atlanta and then Washington. After 8 road games they will be back home for 5 games.
In other news... Pudge is really looking good behind the plate and at it. Also the polls are open for the All-Star game. Vote now and send for favorite Astro players to St. Louis. You can vote now thru July 2nd, and vote often.

What happened that Pudge got thrown out of the game the other day.
Ok here is the answer to the question.....
Rodriguez was ejected after he argued a ball-two call during Mike Cameron's at-bat against LaTroy Hawkins. Rodriguez grew more agitated as he argued with DiMuro, and soon, Cooper joined in and was also tossed.
"[Rodriguez] was just asking, 'Where was [the pitch]?'" Cooper said. "He turned around and asked him. He was trying to hold it to make sure the guy got a good look. He turned around and asked him and [DiMuro] said, 'Don't show me up.' I don't think he actually showed him up."
Hawkins and third-base coach Dave Clark stepped in to try to calm Rodriguez, who eventually walked away from the umpire. That's when Cooper walked back over to DiMuro to finish the argument. Soon after, DiMuro tossed Cooper.
Rodriguez was not available for comment after the game.
"I told him it wasn't a reason to throw him out of the ballgame," Cooper said of his conversation with DiMuro. "It was just a bad decision. That's when things started to escalate a little bit. I was trying to make sure Pudge gets out. But I knew I wasn't finished.
"I had to go back and tell him that he blew a bunch of calls tonight. He was missing a lot of pitches. Our guys were complaining, and I had to tell him. I told him, and he said, 'You're out of here.' I thought he had a bad zone."
Cooper wasn't the only one. Lance Berkman had an animated exchange with DiMuro after he was called out on strikes in the seventh inning. Carlos Lee was also called out on strikes, twice.
"It's just frustrating," Berkman said. "When you're not hitting well and you're struggling to get anything going, you just get frustrated. The beauty of baseball is when you're struggling, it seems like you get a lot of those calls. I think a lot of it is just frustration kind of blowing up."

Well sorry for not posting in a while. The Astros were on a three game winning streak until yesterday. They won the series against the Reds but it was not a sweep since they lost yesterday. The team is looking good, even though they are in the cellar, but like i sadi before the season is young so lets see what happens. They have the day off today then start a three game series in Atlanta.
Side note if you really enjoy baseball tomorrow and saturday they will air a college series between Rice and Houston on CBSC (CBS college sports). Rice is my favorite college team, they have a really good program and have been in the college world series for the last couple of years.

Their first pick was a high school kid out of California. Astrosfan13
06-26-2009, 03:26 AM
Well the Astros won the final game against the Royals 5-4. Also Lance Berkman joined the 1000 RBI club. So it was a good night for the Stros. They start a three game series against the Tigers tomorrow.
HOUSTON -- After making a ninth-inning error that helped the Royals beat the Astros in extra innings a day before, first baseman Lance Berkman made sure his team's defensive shortcomings weren't as costly Thursday afternoon.
Berkman hit a pair of go-ahead, two-run home runs and drove in a season-high four runs to surpass the 1,000-RBI mark for his career and help the Astros overcome three errors to beat the Royals, 5-4, at Minute Maid Park.
"That's good for my psyche after wearing the goat horns last night with that error," Berkman said.
Berkman recorded his first multi-homer game in more than a year by going deep in the second and sixth innings off Royals starter Brian Bannister to help Houston salvage the final game of the series and get within five games of first place in the National League Central.
The Astros' bullpen held the Royals to one hit and struck out seven batters in four innings, as Houston pitchers sent down 15 of the final 16 batters they faced. Wesley Wright (2-1) struck out four batters in 1 1/3 innings for the win, and Jose Valverde rebounded from Wednesday's blown save to record his sixth save.
"It was the 'Puma' and 'pen show," Astros manager Cecil Cooper said. "They were just outstanding. That's what Berkman needs to do, stay in left-center field. If he stays in left-center field, he's a player."
Astros starter Brian Moehler pitched five innings and gave up four runs, but the defense committed three costly errors behind him which led to three unearned runs.
"The last couple of days, we didn't field the ball too well, but today we overcame the errors, and Lance had a big game for us and picked us up and we pulled it out," Moehler said.
Berkman (3-for-4) was a bit harsher in his assessment of the defense.
"The defense has been terrible," he said. "It cost us the game [Wednesday] night, and today it could have cost us the game. We have to figure something out, a little more intensity and a little more concentration. You can't give teams extra outs in the Major Leagues and expect to win.
"We have been a good defensive team in the past, and there's no reason we can't be. This year, we just have to do it."
Berkman's two-run homer in the second inning -- which accounted for career RBIs Nos. 1,000 and 1,001 -- landed in the Crawford Boxes and gave Houston a 2-1 lead. Berkman became the third Astros player to reach 1,000 RBIs, trailing Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio.
"He was trying to hit everything that way, and obviously it's a short porch and I did a real good job with that lineup," Bannister said. "I allowed Carlos [Lee] to get on base in front of him, and I didn't make an adjustment. He had an approach on me and he executed it and he single-handedly beat me today."
The Royals took advantage of sloppy fielding in the fourth, scoring twice to take a 3-2 lead. Moehler got three ground balls to start the inning that should have resulted in three outs, but the first went off his leg for a single, and Jose Guillen and Mike Jacobs reached on consecutive errors by Jeff Keppinger and Miguel Tejada.
Moehler avoided more damage by getting Bannister to ground into a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.
"It was big because that stopped the bleeding, I guess, and kept everything close," Moehler said. "That kept us in the game, and we were able to go ahead in the sixth inning."
Houston tied the game at 3 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Kaz Matsui, but a throwing error by catcher Humberto Quintero during a fifth-inning rundown -- costing the Astros the chance of an inning-ending out -- allowed a run to score to put Kansas City ahead, 4-3.
"It was a comedy of things," Cooper said.
Berkman followed a Lee walk in the sixth with another homer into the Crawford Boxes, putting Houston up 5-4. The Astros turned it over to their bullpen, which was terrific after blowing the lead Wednesday night.
Wright, pitching for the first time in a week, set a career high with his four strikeouts.
"I was able to locate my fastball better than in the past," Wright said. "My breaking stuff wasn't as sharp as it has been, but it was pretty good."
Chris Sampson threw two-thirds of an inning, and LaTroy Hawkins worked a scoreless eighth before turning the game over to Valverde, who converted his sixth save in nine opportunities this year.
"The bullpen did an outstanding job, particularly Wesley Wright," Cooper said. "He came in and threw strikes and attacked the zone. When we sent Wesley out [to Triple-A Round Rock earlier this year], we told him to throw strikes and he's done that. I know [Valverde] was happy to lock that one down."

Well the Astros had a four game series against the Padres and won 3 out of 4 taking the series. They started a series with the Giants today. Winning the three games in San Deigo puts them almost to 500.

Welcome back baseball fans. Sorry i have not posted in a while. Well the Astros have been doing prety good lately. They won their series against the Pirates, and have a chance to win the series against the NAtionals today. They are still one game under 500. SO a win today will put them at 500 going into the allstar break.
Speaking of allstars. Houston has two players going to represent the team this year in St. Louis. They are shotstop Miguel Tejada and right fielder Hunter Pence. This will be Hunter's first allstar game. Tomorrow will be the home run derby and then the ame on tuesday.

Hello baseball fans. I do apoligize for not posting anything for such a long time. The Astros are doing real good right now. They are in 3rd place in their division. They just finished a 3 game series against the #1 Cardinals and won all three. They started one against the Mets tonight and have won the first game. If they can keep up this momentum they will be doing very good.
A couple of other things have happened since last time. Berkman is on the DL with a calf strain. We have acquired catcher Chris Coste off waivers from Philly. He is a catcher by trade but has filled in for Berkman at first and is doing a great job. Funny thing about the guy is he made is major league debut at 33 years old.
So right now they are on a roll. The whole team is coming together very nicely and hopefully good things will happen.

I am back again. I know it has been a while since my last update. Well since then the Astros have been hot and cold win a couple loose a couple. Right now they are 2 games under 500 and 7 back from first. In other news Lance Berkman who has missed like 20 days is almost off the DL. We also have Aaron Boone who did not start the season due to open heart surgery to repair some heart problems is now in a rehab assignment at Corpus Christi. If his rehab schedule holds and he does well he will join the team at the end of the month. They have been playing pretty good ball, just have had some rough starts with the pitching staff (mainly the starters). Well there is still time for them to make a run at it they just need to buckle down and play ball.
Lets see what happens.........

Well we finally got some of our players off the DL. They just finished up a road trip with the Marlins and Brewers. They won today but did not do too hot overall. They went 2 - 7. Won one at Florida and one at Milwaukee. They are home with one days rest then have six games at Minute Maid park. Three against Florida and three against Arizona. They fell to 9.5 games back and are 4 games under 500. Hopefully they can turn it around on this homestand.
On another note the Texas Rangers are having a great run right now. It would be nice to see them in the playoffs.
How cool would it be to have a Rangers/ Astros world series.

I don't know what happened bro. They usually kick ass after the all star break. It looks like it's gonna be a wait till next year season.

Well its time to put on the rally hats and get the bats going. I am not a very supersticious person (i do not want to jinx anything), but they are on a nice little win streak. They won the series today against the Diamondbacks and are going for the sweep tomorrow.
Well incase you have not heard they traded Pudge to Texas for three minor league prospects. I guess it is not a bad deal. They had three catchers on the roster and are pertty set in that spot. They have their number one prospect JAson Castro they signed two years ago coming along nice, might be ready next year (fast track). They need to rebuild the farm system. So i guess three minor league prospects is not bad, seeing as how cheap they got Pudge for at the start of the season. Well lets see what the rest of the season holds for the Astros.
LRD VDR you might be right.......

Well it has been a while again is my last report. The Astros had a great weekend against the Phillies. They swept the 4 game series. Tonight they had the Braves at home and ended their 4 game win streak with a loss to them 2-1. Well hopefully they can start winning. If you are a optomistic person like me there are plenty of games left in the season to still make it, at least they have a shot at the wildcard anyways. Well lets se what happens, and hope for the best.

AHHHHH the Astros are driving me crazy. They were on a 9 game losing streak until they finally won tonight. Incase you have not heard they let the manager (Cecil Cooper) monday. They need to hire a good proven manager and some pitching for next season. They cannot just settle for what they have now. The GM always talks about what he did at the last club and how good it was. So lets see it here. Anyways sorry about that. It has been a long hard season for the Astros and the fans. MAybe next year........... :001_smile:

Well the Astros season is slowly coming to an end. They have 10 games left 3 at home and the last 7 on the road.
Today the GM announced that they will give the coaches the option to look into other job openings. They are doing this incase the new manager wants to hire his own coaching staff. They do not want to tell them that they will have their jobs still and he comes in a lets them all go. Unless they keep Dave Clark there then they will probably have nothing to worry about.
Well i wanted to give you guys a few stats seeing as how their win/lose record is not so great.
I took the top 10 from the league leaders and here are where the Astros stand.
Games played- Carlos Lee 3rd 151 games
Hunter Pence 10th 149 games
At bats- Miguel Tejada 2nd 595
Carlos Lee 9th 572
Hits- Miguel Tejada 3rd 181
Carlos Lee 7th 174
Doubles- Miguel Tejada 1st 44
Triples- Michael Bourn tie for 1st 11
Walks- Lance Berkman 7th 91
Strike outs- Michael Bourn 10th 130
Stolen bases- Michael Bourn 1st 58
Caught stealing- Michael Bourn and Hunter pence are ties for 3rd with 11
It is good to see the Astros players leading in some catagories.

Well the Astros won tonight. They won their series with the Phillies. They have three more games until the end of the season. They go to New York to play the mets. Lets see if they can get a couple more wins to finish out.
Hopefully they will pick up a manager in the off season that is a proven leader and can take the team all the way. I also know they need to get some starting pitching. They might have a couple more years before they are in it again. I have hope because i am a true blue Astros fan. I will not give up on them.....

We need ownership to spend some money and get some good pitching and another good hitter. First half of the season wasn't so bad with only two games back at the break. They collapsed during the second half. Next year will be a better year.

Well the Astros got blanked today by the mets. They got swept in New York. Well they had a good first half but lost it after the break. I agree with you LRD VDR they need to spend some money $$$$. MAybe if they bring in a proven skipper and another starter that might get the team motivated to step it up. Well we will see.
Now it is time for post season ball. Who do you pick to win it all.........

Well as you know the Astros are looking for a new manager. Here is a list of canadites that will interview this week.
Interim manager Dave Clark and Astros Minor League field coordinator Al Pedrique will be the first to interview on Wednesday.
Former Brewers manager Ned Yost and Padres hitting coach Randy Ready will interview Thursday.
Former Arizona D-Backs manager Bob Melvin and former Nationals manager Manny Acta will interview Friday.
Former Astros Phil Garner on Saturday (Thats right former Astros manager)
Two minor league coahes from the Boston Red Sox Brad Mills and Tim Bogar on Monday.
Houston has also been granted permission to interview Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin, but that interview has yet to be scheduled because Philadelphia is still in the playoffs.
Well here is the list of 10 they said they were going to talk to. I think Bob Melvin or Ned Yost would probably be good. Even Phil might be a good choice to bring back. They all know how to win (Phil was the manager when they went to the world series). So after the first round they will select a smaller group then have another round of interviews. Hopefully they pick the right guy.
STAYED TUNED.............

Hello Astros fans........
As i posted in my last post they were looking for a new manager. Well we got one. They hired Brad Mills bench coach for the Red Sox. It came down to 4 guys, Manny Acta, Phil Garner, Brad Mills and Dave Clark. They offered the job to Manny but he took a manager position in Cleveland.
Well the new skipper has got right to work. He has hired a bench coach and first base coach. So far the coaching staff looks like this
Manager - Brad Mills
Bench Coach - Al Pedrique
First base coach - Bobby Meacham
Third base coach - Dave Clark
Pitching coach - Brad Arnsberg
Batting coach - Sean Berry
Bull Pen coach - TBA
So the coaching staff is almost all new. For those of you who do not know, long time first base coach Jose Cruz is now an assisiant to the general manager. So lets se if this new assortment of leaders will be able to work some magic. They still need to get some starting pitching, and a couple more key position players. Lets see what happens. :smbaseball9:

They should wheel and deal for Beckett now. Trade off a slump power hitter for him and move Hunter Pence in a new position. Justa thought though.:nervousbeer:
