With the 2010 Mustang getting set to hit dealers nationwide I thought why not review some of the details the new refreshed Mustang has to offer. Let's start off with a review of the performance and handling of the 2010 Mustang V6 and GT and than in later posts move into the interior, exterior, safety, styling and than prices. After all those areas have been covered I will give you a final review of my likes and dislikes for the 2010 Mustang.

In the performance department the 2010 Ford Mustang offers two engine choices, the base 4.0-liter V-6 with 210 horsepower and the GT's 3-valve 4.6-liter V-8 with a small jump in horsepower from 300 to 315 courtesy of a cold air induction system. A review of the performance numbers by Motor Trend show the 2010 Mustang accelerating to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a tenth quicker than previous models. Motor Trend's quarter mile times show the GT powering down the track in 13.7 seconds at 103.7 mph, two tenths quicker and 2 mph over previous year Mustangs. With the increased horsepower you might think fuel economy will suffer but expect Ford to tweak the tune for each model and actual mpg to increase.

Handling for Mustang GT's over the years have been picked apart at the seams with several defaults being pointed out but the 2010 Mustang GT has been significantly upgraded with the addition of a Bullitt inspired suspension which should put to rest the previous models underachieving ways. In a review from Edmunds they report the "new front suspension struts come with bigger pistons for more precise damping control, the springs are stiffer and the anti roll bars are different" giving the Mustang GT according to Consumer Guide a "nicely weighted steering, impressive dry-road grip, and modest lean that builds progressively with cornering speed". These two review snippets from two well respected publications give the 2010 Ford Mustang GT the credit it deserves for well rounded improvements to the suspension.

According to The Car Connection's Rex Roy who put almost 200 miles on a 2010 Mustang GT outfitted with the manual gearbox and new 19-inch wheels, "acceleration was immediate and ample, and the action of the five-speed's linkage was smooth." which reiterates the effectiveness of the 2o10 Mustangs power and suspension upgrades.

For an overall performance and handling rating, The Car Connection.com gives the 2010 Mustang an 8 out of 10. With the added refinements, increase in horsepower and suspension upgrades for the GT there is not much to complain about except the same old 3-valve 4.6-liter is still under the hood. Let's hope in the near future Ford will surprise us with a 5.0-liter motor.
