View Full Version : Am I the new Leafs columnist?

So I come on and I see that there are no more Leafs columns... so I figure I will take up the slack. I wanted to put some thoughts out after watching the Leafs win 3-2 against the Isles.

After what has been a crazy October and a rebuilding November, December has seen the Leafs win four out of five. Vesa Toskala is finally learning to stop solids from entering the goal... players are finally starting to gel... and the team is not afraid of their home fans anymore. We also learned that Jonas Gustavsson is not as heart-healthy as we thought leaving twice because of heart conditions. How many athletes do you know that have this on their boxscore:
Left game - Heart problems

Just three weeks ago, fans were calling for Ron Wilson's head saying an American couldn't coach the Leafs. It took a long time, but he may just have them under control. Brian Burke (the GM) was also coming under fire for his off-season moves, but we are talking about a Stanley Cup winner in Burkie so his moves are justified.

Phil Kessel learned at the tender age of 23 that you cannot run your mouth to Boston fans before a game and get away with it on Saturday. He was part of the 7-2 nailing by the Bruins, but he is learning on the job and is part of the Leafs youth movement. He is a great sniper and you always get that feeling that something is going to happen when he touches the puck.

My wife always wonders why I follow this team (or this sport) with all the drama that happens. Hopefully she will ask me this question when I make my triumphant return to Toronto to watch the Stanley Cup parade down Bay, Yonge and Queen streets!
