Code Geass is a pretty popular anime series in Japan, and was translated to English a while back. It's heading for a possibly third season now, and there's quite a bit of speculation as to what will happen, though that's not the point of this video. It's pretty moving, moreso than the Japanese version, I believe. The main character's voice is a bit emotionless there, and his English voice actor really got it down better. On to the video:
Basic backstory: Lelouch is a student trying to destroy an evil empire of sorts, with the help of a band of fugitives, using guerilla tactics to survive. In this clip, Lelouch notices something that immediately worries him, and forgets about his own problems, which at that moment consist of an assassin trying to track him down, and a building set to explode on top of him.
Warning: This video contains blood, and a student dying from a gunshot wound. Also, it may not be for you if heartwrenching scenes aren't your thing.

Now, for the truth behind a few things that might puzzle some in that clip:
The eye thing: That's Lelouch's "superpower" granted to him by an immortal being. It forces anyone he makes eye contact with to obey him.
Their relationship: Lelouch got Shirley involved in his world domination plot at one time, but after her life was put in danger, and her father killed, because of this, he used his power to erase her memory. The memory was returned due to the interference of the empire Lelouch is trying to destroy, and though she realizes what has been going on, and that her love interest, Lelouch, has been deceiving her and everyone around himself, thus becoming isolated, and above all, that she still loves him.
As for who shot her, it was Lelouch's accomplice, a false brother hired by the empire to keep tabs on him, who was converted to Lelouch's side with some fairly cruel deception. Though he's the protagonist, Lelouch actually commits some pretty awful acts throughout the series.
